Sealants - An integral part of dental caries prevention

Why do children need sealants?

Sealants are prophylactic coatings placed on chewing permanent teeth and intended to prevent the formation of carious lesions (caries). The first permanent molars (sixth teeth) are most often silanized. They enter the child's mouth very early - only at the age of 6. They do not have a milk tooth predecessor and their mineralization continues for 1-2 years after their eruption.

The risk of caries in these teeth is high. Silanization (placing sealants) is a quick and pleasant manipulation. The children accept it willingly. The teeth are cleaned (with a professional brush and paste), a sealant is applied (it is spilled on the chewing surface), and it is polymerized (it hardens by lighting it with a lamp).Силанти - профилактика на кариесThe procedure is completely painless and safe, and the benefits are enormous. The sealants seal the chewing surface of the teeth and prevent plaque and microorganisms from accumulating there and retaining food residues. They support the spontaneous cleaning of the chewing tooth surface from saliva. The sealants release fluoride ions preventing the development of caries. Sealants are an integral part of dental caries prevention, and prevention is the best treatment.
