Digital occlusion examination (Bite balance)

Дигитално изследвана на оклузия (баланс на захапката)

The occlusion refers to the contact points between the teeth of the upper and lower jaws when we close our mouths. These contact points touch when speaking, eating, or when the jaw is in a relaxed state. In other words, the study of occlusion means the study of the bite.

The balance of the bite is a process in which a dentist evaluates and corrects irregularities in a patient's occlusion. This involves precisely measuring the contact points of the teeth of the upper and lower jaws, paying special attention to how the bite forces are distributed between them.

When bite forces are uneven, they can lead to occlusion problems, which can ultimately lead to pain, discomfort, and other problems. Therefore, it is important to achieve a balanced bite that ensures an even distribution of forces between the teeth of the upper and lower jaws.

Our equipment

From 2018 Specialized Dental Clinic "Bushkalova" added to its specialized equipment and the latest in its technology apparatus T-Scan Novus System, which measures the patient's occlusion at initial examination.

The device visualizes destructive forces before they become a problem and cause tooth fractures and joint pain. T-Scan reveals the level and time of pressure on the individual tooth and the occlusal stability of the overall bite.

T-scan Novus is a computer system for digital examination of occlusion. This is an advanced technology that can help dentists achieve an accurate diagnosis and offer effective treatment for occlusion problems. The dentist can use this information to correct irregularities in the patient's occlusion, for example by removing high spots or realigning the positions of the teeth. This achieves a balanced bite, which can improve the function and comfort of the oral cavity and reduce the risk of various occlusion-related problems.

The technology works by using thin sensors that are placed on the patient's teeth. When the patient closes their mouth, the sensors record the exact points of contact between the teeth. This data is sent to a computer, which analyzes the information and plots the occlusion forces at the different contact points.

T-scan Novus technology can be used both for patients who have occlusion problems and for those who simply wish to improve the function and comfort of their oral cavity.

What does impaired occlusal balance lead to?

Any dental restoration, regardless of its type and material, if it has incorrect contact points compared to the teeth of the opposite jaw, if it has incorrect anatomy and height, causes disturbances in the occlusal balance. This leads to impaired patient comfort, increased tooth sensitivity or any of the following symptoms:

Teeth grinding;

Appearance of a crack in the tooth or a tooth fracture;

Removable teeth;

Change in the position of single teeth - breakage of a dental restoration (breaking off a filling or a fragment of a ceramic restoration);

Gum recession (retraction of the gums and exposure of the root);

Loss of tooth tissue in the cervical area due to occlusal overload (tooth abfractions);

Painful, stiff muscles in the jaw area;

Headache, pain in the neck and shoulders;

Changes in the mandibular joints – cracking, clicking, pain.

When examining a patient, one of the most important things to pay attention to is their occlusion. Modern technologies such as T-scan Novus analyze the information obtained during static and functional occlusion, and on this basis detect symptoms and signs that prove the presence or absence of an occlusal problem.

Treatment may involve restoring one or a few teeth or complete rehabilitation of all teeth, depending on how severe the occlusal problems are. One option for treating occlusal problems is orthodontic treatment. In some cases, a combination of orthodontic and prosthetic treatment may be used.
