The program for silanization of children's teeth has been launched for children from 5 to 9 years old. The initiative is included in the National Program of the Ministry of Health for the prevention of oral diseases in children from 0 to 18 years of age and represents for free silanization of the first four permanent molars, which erupt around the child's sixth year. Silanization is a dental procedure and represents filling and sealing the grooves, pits, fissures of chewing teeth to protect them from plaque and caries development.
The canines, sprouting around the sixth year, are essential for the chewing function, they stay in a person's mouth the longest, so their care is special. At the time of germination, they are most damaged because:
- the minerals that build the protective wall of the tooth are still 50% of the necessary amount needed for the strength of the tooth;
- their surfaces are strongly grooved, easily retain food deposits and are difficult to clean;
- changing the daily regime in preschool / first grade, leads to fatigue and frequent refusal to brush teeth in the evening.
The silanization process is absolutely painless, there is no violation of the integrity of the dental tissue. A tooth is cleaned with a brush and gel from food residues. The liquid material (sealant) placed in the grooves is hardened by the blue light of a special lamp.
The material stays on the tooth for about a year, enough time for complete mineralization of the tooth surface. This is the most successful prevention for protecting children's teeth from the development of caries.
