March 20th is celebrated all over the world World Oral Health Day. The organizer of the holiday is the world's largest company supporting oral health - FDI World Dental Organization.
Oral health day was celebrated for the first time in 2007, but then it was celebrated on September 12 instead of March 20. The date was not chosen by chance, as it is the birthday of Dr. Charles Godon, the founder of the World Dental Organization.
In 2013, however, a new date was chosen to celebrate the holiday, as the World Dental Congress of FDI. The new date was not chosen by chance either. Now we will explain to you what the symbolism of the date March 20 is.
The new date for World Oral Health Day symbolizes the following:
– Young children should have 20 baby teeth.
– To be considered healthy every adult should have 20 natural teeth at the end of their life.
– Healthy adults should have 32 healthy teeth and 0 cavities in their mouths.
Taken together, these numbers form 3/20, which corresponds exactly to the date March 20, since in English the month is written first, then the day.
This year the campaign motto is – "Dentists against total edentulism!"
The campaign is supported by The Bulgarian Dental Union and The Association of Dental Managers in Bulgaria!
